From a single block, planted with MV6 in 2004. Significantly better than the '24 Shed Pinot Noir and for not a whole lot more in price. A bright ruby-red colour precedes a well-defined bouquet of redcurrant and cranberry together with summer flowers. The palate is elegant, with gently crunchy tannins rounding out a very well-put-together wine to drink now and over the next three to five years at least.

Bright ruby in colour with herbal, savoury aromas of leaf and stem over raspberry jam, fresh cranberry and dried orange peel. Light on its feet, it's soft and supple on entry, with juicy fruit intensity and then with bright acidity and chalky tannin the structure builds momentum, finishing on a crescendo of savoury, chewy grippiness. Pinot for pinot lovers.

Alluring from the outset, this Denton Estate Pinot Noir embraces its savoury side while maintaining enough fruit to keep things supple and inviting.

Dark cherries and their dehydrated counterparts form the wine’s core, joined by dark plums and gentle flickers of blueberry that lift the profile. Crushed petals, Campari and herbal tea thread through dried leaves and woodsy spice, creating an earthy, autumnal tone that draws you in. A hint of orange peel and a trace of porcini lend an umami depth and complexity that reward patience. The longer it sits, the more it reveals. Grippy, dusty tannins extend with calm precision, drying slowly and leaving a composed, confident finish. There is quiet intrigue here, supported by poise and structure. Nicely done.

Vineyard

Single block, single clone: MV6 from our treacherous, granite-strewn, close-planted Block B4 at the top of View Hill. Hand-picked on 29 February - a mild, sunny day. Ripeness came fast this year, and picking was timed tight to preserve freshness and fruit.

Vinification

The fruit was destemmed and wild-fermented in open-top fermenters with minimal sulphur. 10% whole bunch in ferment - for lift, silkiness, and just the right hint of funk. It spent two weeks on skins with gentle hand plunging to coax out fine tannin and shape.

Pressed, then transferred to puncheons (33% new François Frère) for malolactic fermentation and élevage. Racked in August 2024 after 11 months in oak and tucked back into barrel before bottling in February 2025.

Vintage

A season of two halves - wet early, then bone dry. Record rainfall through December and January brought disease pressure, then February and March flipped to the driest on record. Warm days compressed the ripening window, but cool nights preserved acid and balance. Fast-paced, but worth it.
